CSU Transfer Requirements

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​How ​to transfer to a CSU - G​​​​uideline

Tips and steps to prepare you to apply and transfer from COS to a CSU.

  1. Complete 60 CSU Transferable Units (COS Course numbering 001-199) - Starting Fall 2025 Course numbers are changing to C1000-2000
  2. Obtain and overall 2.0 GPA (CA Residents) or 2.4 GPA (non-CA Residents)
  3. Complete one (1) of the following general education patterns
    • CSU GE Breadth
    • ​CSU IGETC
    • CalGETC - For new students, effective FALL 2025
      • ​Note* Meet with a counselor to verify which GE pattern is best for your major. For example, Engineering majors may have exemptions. 
  4. Review the admissions requirements for the CSU you wish to attend
    • ​Complete the lower-division major prep using Assist.org 
    • Check whether your intended CSU campus or major is impacted, as this may affect admissions criteria and required GPA. Speak with a COS counselor or University Rep to review the requirements you need to follow. 
  5. Prepare to Apply to Transfer
    1. Confirm with a counselor to check eligibility
  6. Submit your CSU Application (Cal State Apply)
    • ​Fall Transfer Application deadline: October 1st - Nov 30th
    • Spring Transfer Application deadline: August 1st - August 31st
      • ​*Deadline varies by campus. 
    • Attend a CSU application workshop​ in the COS Transfer & Career Center​

Interested in transferring from College of the Sequoias (COS) to a California State University (CSU)? Part of the transfer process is identifying your transfer major and campus.

The Cal State University (CSUs) encourage all California community college students to create their transfer planner as soon as possible!

With the CSU Transfer Planner, students will have access to:
