The English Division at College of the Sequoias welcomes students of all ethnicities, races, genders, religions, ages, sexual orientations, abilities, socioeconomic backgrounds, regions, nationalities, countries of origin, and immigration status. We believe that valuing our individual differences deepens our understanding of one another and the world around us.
While the English language contains rich, beautiful, and creative structures for study, we acknowledge that it has supported systemic inequity. As much as the English language has provided opportunity, it also has embedded racist, sexist and ableist figures of speech. We are committed to challenging these inequities, empowering all students, and developing a more inclusive world. We are committed to continually learning and reflecting on ways to challenge institutional inequities.
Faculty in the English Division are committed to clearly communicating expectations and giving clear feedback with the goal of making sure every student has the chance to succeed. We are committed to equity and to the success of all our students.
