Children's Literature

  • Native American Books for Children and Teens Includes themes, opinions, authors and illustrators.
  • Children's Literature Web Guide A tremendous site for children's Literature. There are links to children's book awards, bestsellers, reviews, web pages of children's authors, and more.
  • Carol Hurst's Children's Literature Site  This is a collection of reviews of  books for kids, ideas of ways to use them in the classroom and collections of books and activities about particular subjects, curriculum areas, themes and professional topics.
  • Children's Digital Library   Picture books in digital format. Currently your computer must have JAVA to view these books.  During the summer of 2003 the delivery format will be changed and the books will be viewable through the Internet Browser.
  • Children's and Young Adult's Author's and Illustrators
  • Digitized Juvenile Literature Collection    Full-text, scanned images of 19th century picture books.
  • Literature for Children  A growing collection of digitized titles published, predominately in the United States and Great Britain, from the 17th century to the 20th century.
  • University of Wisconsin Cooperative Children's Book Center  "The CCBC is a unique and vital gathering place for all who are interested in youth literature:  original bibliographies created by CCBC librarians, book reviews, webcasts of CCBC-sponsored speeches by children's and young adult book creators, and of course, we have links to a wealth of internet resources on literature for the young throughout the site."
  • Yahoo: Large listing of children's authors
    • Children's Books  This link takes you to the children's books at the COS Library. The books are arranged by subject.  Example: color, counting, emotions, folklore and so on.

    Reference Collection: Contemporary Author  R 928.1 C761   This large set of reference books contains biographical information on many authors, including children's authors.

  • Children's Music Web
  • Daycare Providers  This site is for daycare providers  - at home and in centers. It is for sharing activities, issues and information.
  • EduPuppy  Edupuppy bills itself as "everything for Education Preschool-Grade 2." It is a large subject directory/metasite with over 2,600 links arranged by category.
  • Head Start  Program for young children that is sponsored by the U.S. government.
  • Idea Box Dedicated to the education of young children, this site has ideas, articles, projects, seasonal themes, and printable pages. It includes a very active message board for parents and teachers.

  • National Head Start Association

  • Access America for Seniors  A gateway to government information and services for seniors and those who work on their behalf.
  • The Family Education Network  The main divisions of this site are by grade level categories: pre-school and younger, elementary, middle school, and high school and beyond.
  • Fact Sheets for Families  The site by the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry provides concise and up-to-date information on issues that affect children, teenagers, and their families, with topics ranging from Abuse to Violence on Television.
  • Family Network Homepage  A commercial site with lots of fun and informative articles/links.
  • FatherMag  The web version of Fathering magazine, with articles for Dad.
  • Kid Source  Advice for parents on issues including safety, nutrition, and coping with disabilities.
  • La Leche League  An organization that promotes breastfeeding.
  • National Parent Information Network  A government sponsored site for parents and those working with parents.
  • National Survey of America's Families  Snapshots of America's families highlights four major subject areas: Income, Health, Children's Environment and Behavior, and Adult's Environment and Behavior.
  • Parent Time The content of this site is geared from pregnancy to age six. Pregnancy and birth resources are its strength.
  • Parenting Q&A  This site is sponsored by Parents' Plus, the publisher of Boston Parent's Paper. Besides having articles at the site there is a place to submit your questions to parenting experts.

  • The Costume Page   This site indexes over 2000 costume-related sites, including museums and exhibits. It is also strong in ethnic sites.

  • Style  The style section of the CNN news site.
  • FashionWorld  This site links to sites of interest to fashion retailers, manufacturers, and shoppers. It also provides a search engine of fashion sites.
  • Angel of Fashion  This site links to alternative fashion sites, e-zines, designers, modeling and more.
  • World Fashion Sites Links to international fashion sites, museums, schools, magazines, textiles and more.
  • FirstVIEW: Collections Online  THE Internet publication for fashion show photographs from both haute couture and ready-to-wear collections shown in Paris, New York, Milan and London. The most recent fashions require an expensive account, however, you can view the past season for free or purchase hourly passwords.

  • Virtual Garment Center   This site is divided into two sections; a section where companies can list garments or textiles needed and a searchable database of companies such as manufacturers, jobbers, supplies or retailers.

  • Fashion Windows   This site has four main sections: mannequins, visual merchandising, windows, and fashion designers. Each section has a selection of articles and the windows has examples of successful window displays.

  • Food Safety Organization   National Food Safety Database
  • Food Industry Information Gateway   electronic information services specifically for organizations in the food service industry. This site includes links to News and Trade Journals.
  • Gateway to Food Safety Information - This database was designed by individuals with the Cooperative Extension Service at North Carolina State University to promote food safety education via the Internet. It is not intended to repeat information that is already available on the Internet, but to provide a "Gateway" to these food safety sites, while also including new information.
  • Restaurant Supplies  Yahoo provides over 100 links to all kinds of suppliers for restaurants, from cups to Walk in Refrigerators.
  • Food Service Consulting   Yahoo provides links to commercial sites that offer consulting to the food service industry.
  • Kitchen Links   Master Index to over 7000 Food and Cooking Related Links on the Net.
