CAREER INFORMATION

  • California Occupational Guides, the Emerging Occupations Guides, and Emerging Occupations - This site includes about 300 information sheets covering individual occupations or groups of related occupations.  These fact sheets provide statewide information about job duties, working conditions, employment outlook, wages, benefits, entrance requirements, and training.

  • Career Counseling Resources - Excellent selection of links dealing with career information, exploration, and development.

  • Fortune:  Best Companies to Work For - Fortune has recently released its list of the "Best Companies to Work For." According to Fortune, the list consists of 100 companies who were willing "to come up with creative ways to keep their employees satisfied" and treated them with "respect and dignity." 80 companies on the list avoided layoffs last year (in the wake of the September 11th tragedy), while 47 reported that they have some sort of official policy barring layoffs.

  • Occupational Outlook Handbook - a classic published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, describes what workers do on the job, working conditions, the training and education needed, earnings, and expected job prospects in a wide variety of occupations
  • Standard Occupational Classification - provides brief definitions for thousands of jobs.

JOB SEARCHING

  • America's Job Bank - Search through their database of over one million jobs nationwide, post your resume, or setup an automated job search resume online. 

  • California Online Job Network - A "collection of local career websites. Job seekers may search for[free for] local jobs by distance from a given zip code, category or keyword. ... Employers may post job openings" for a fee. Includes sites for San Jose, Oakland, Riverside, San Diego, Los Angeles, Orange County, Sacramento, and San Francisco (as well as Alaska). Job seekers can post a resume at no charge.

  • CollegeGrad - Collegegrad.com has been exclusively serving college students and career centers since 1995. Includes preparing for the job, resumes, interviewing, salaries, first job and job searching.

  • Visalia-Jobs.com - A source for jobs and career opportunities in Visalia, California.

  • JobStar California   - A good site if you are looking for a job or planning a career in California.  You will also find several links on resumes, job fairs, and salary information.

  • Job Sources by U.S. Region - A comprehensive online source for locating employment in the United States which also includes links for summer jobs and internships.
  • IMDiversity.com - Search for jobs or post your resume.  This site is aimed toward diversity in the workplace with special emphasis on minority and female jobseekers. 
  • Headhunter.net  - Search by interest/field of study for over 250,000 jobs across the country.
  • Quintessential Careers - A site for career and job searching which also provides links on cover letters, interviewing tips, college degrees, and financial aid.

  • Monster.com’sResumeBuilder - A site that features resume and cover letter samples plus a list of do’s and don’ts for resume writers.
