Ethical Codes and Dilemmas

  • Business Ethics: Case Studies  - The Center for the Study of Ethics at Utah Valley State College developed these business cases as part of their Ethics across the Curriculum seminar. Even though the cases in this section are somewhat generic in nature, they are designed to address personal and corporate ethics situations that could occur in any business environment.

  • Illinois Institute of Technology - In June 1996, this Center received a grant from the National Science Foundation to put their collection of over 850 codes of ethics collected from societies, corporation, government and academic institutions on the WWW.

  • California Certified Public Accountants Association - The website of the California Certified Public Accountants Association.  Consumers and small business owners can use CalCPA's expert resources to help guide decisions about investments, retirement planning, taxes and other financial issues.
  • California City and County Sales and Use Tax Rates - Current sales tax rate information from the California Board of Equalization.
  • California Franchise Tax Board - Contains current and prior-year California tax forms, instructions and publications, and answers to the most asked state tax questions. Also contains information for getting tax forms by phone, by mail, and in person.
  • California Tax Library - A directory of Web resources for California tax information, including forms, publications, rates (including sales and other local taxes), news, laws, state agencies, and more.
  • Federation of Tax Administrators:   Tax Rate Tables - This Web site provides tables comparing the tax rates and structure for all fifty U.S. states. State income, sales, and excise taxes are covered. It also compares other related items, such as check off and tax amnesty programs. State and local tax burdens presentations include percentage of personal income, per capita, by source, and as a percentage of total revenues.
  • IRS - Forms and Publications - This site from the Internal Revenue Service includes all federal tax forms, publications, instructions, and regulations, back to 1992. Also includes IRS publications, information about filing extensions, and a section called Frequently Asked Downloading and Printing Questions. Many of the tax forms are now type-in/print-out. Searchable and browsable.
  • Tax and Accounting Sites Directory - A "comprehensive index of web-based tax and accounting resources. The directory is designed to be a starting point for people who are searching for tax and accounting information and services.
  • Tax Resources on the Web - A large directory of categorized links to tax resources on the Internet. In addition to resources on wide variety of general and specific tax topics, there are special sections devoted to United States Federal tax and a California Tax Library.
  • Tax Foundation - Federal and state budget and tax news, information, and commentary from a nonprofit, nonpartisan group which was created in 1937 "to educate the public about taxes." Includes information on Tax Freedom Day: the day of the year that U.S. workers must work "before earning enough money to pay for government--federal, state and local--and start spending money on themselves."
  • Tax Protester Frequently Asked Questions - This site's purpose is "to provide concise, authoritative rebuttals to nonsense about the U.S. tax system that is frequently posted in misc.taxes, and on web sites scattered throughout the Internet, by a variety of fanatics, idiots, and dupes, frequently referred to by the courts as 'tax protesters.'" It is "a collection of frequently made assertions, together with an explanation of why each assertion is false." Prepared by a tax law attorney.
  • Uncle Fed's Tax * Board - U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) forms, news, and bulletins; Tax Court Rules; the Taxpayer Bill of Rights; strategies for avoiding audits; U.S. Government Accounting Office (GAO) reports on the IRS; state tax forms; information for tax professionals, including job postings; and more. Much of the material is reprints of government documents that can be found elsewhere on the Internet, but here it is arranged in an easy-to-navigate presentation.   • U.S. Tax Code On-Line - This document allows you to access the complete text of the United States Internal Revenue Code, Title 26 of the U.S. Code (26 USC) in a variety of ways. Hyperlinks have been embedded in the Code to permit following cross-references between sections with a simple mouse click. A WAIS-based full-text search engine allows you to quickly locate Code sections by content.
  • 1040.com - 1040.com is an online tax resource dedicated to helping you find the information, news, and forms you need to complete your taxes.  Find, download, and Print any tax form you need, visit links to the IRS website, find the answers to your tax questions, and get the latest news and information, all in one location.

  • Better Business Bureau Central Web Server for U.S. and Canada - you can browse their site to locate reliable businesses and charities, and file a complaint..
  • BigBook - the yellow pages to approximately 16 million U.S. businesses.
  • Business History - This site contains links to firms history pages bibliographies and the occasional academic paper.
  • Companies Online - Search by company name, ticker symbol or by industry and it will link to the company's web site.
  • EDGAR Database - the Security and Exchange Commissions corporate information database.
  • Hoover's Online - profiles about 10,000 companies briefings. Searchable by company name, ticker symbol or by location, industry and/or sales Additional information is provided to subscribers.
  • Streetlinks - Latest quarterly reports from many public companies, also includes press releases.
  • Thomas Register of American Manufacturers - Search by location (state/province) with either product/service or company name. Registration is free.
  • Transnational Organization - Transnationale.org provides comprehensive information on more than 10000 companies around the world. We report social and environmental behaviour, financial data, list of brands, membership to the most influential lobbies, public relations and «opinion making», managers name and position, shareholders and subsidiaries, plants locations and offshore centers, brand and corporate image management.

  • American Association of Retired Persons Webplace!
  • BenefitsLink(tm) - The National Employee Benefits web site. Provides Internet links to information and services for employers sponsoring employee benefit plan, companies providing products and services for plans, and participating employees.
  • Business & Investing by Quicken - Covers investments, retirement, home & mortgage, banking & borrowing, saving & spending, insurance and taxes.
  • FinanCenter - A very consumer friendly site. Answers questions concerning homes, automobiles, credit lines, credit cards, budgeting, savings, insurance, investing and retirement.
  • The Financial Information Link Library - global links to financial resources.
  • GuideStar--Donor's Guide to Charities and nonprofits - A site that helps the consumer compare and monitor over 600,000 organizations to which they may contribute. 
  • A Guide to California Medicare HMOs - This Web site is a free public service for California Medicare beneficiaries, their families, and friends. This site provides information about the Medicare program in California, as well as the options for covering health costs not paid for by Medicare.  If you're thinking of joining a Medicare HMO, this guide can help you choose the plan that is best for you. If you are already enrolled in a Medicare HMO, you can use this guide to find out about other plans in your area that may provide better value.

  • Bureau of Labor Statistics- Click on Economy at a glance to see statistics on the labor market, hours, earnings, productivity and consumer price index.
  • California Statistical Abstract - This is the 38th edition of the California Statistical Abstract, a compilation of data on social, economic and physical aspects of the State.
  • The Economic Statistics Briefing Room - The purpose of this service is to provide easy access to current Federal economic indicators.
  • Worldwide 2001 Cost of Living Survey - Both interesting and informative, Finfact’s Worldwide Cost of Living Survey for 2001 compares prices of more than 200 items in 144 cities across the globe. Using New York City, which ranked tenth in 2001, as an absolute (at 100%), the survey compares relative costs of living in major metropolitan areas worldwide, particularly in major financial and commercial hubs. Ranking first, second, and third respectively, Tokyo, Moscow, and Hong Kong enjoy placement at the top of the list. Given the current state of the economy, it is nice to see that there are actually many places where a cup of coffee is a lot more expensive than it is here.
