COS Book Catalog
Students can use COS Library online catalog, either from home or standing OPAC
(online catalog) computers in the library, to find the books
they need.
Here
are a few examples of subject search:
Egyptian art

Egyptian architecture

Greek architecture

Reference books
Art
encyclopedias and dictionaries can be found downstairs, in COS Library’s
reference collection, mostly under R 703 and R 709 call numbers, e.g. The
Dictionary of Art (R 703 D554). They
can be a great start to
your research.
When using a reference
book, check the index from the back of the book (if there is one) to find the
topics you are researching.
Some things to remember
Egyptian art is assign 709.32 call number, while Greek art can be found under
709.38.
However, some books about Greek and Egyptian art can be found under different
call numbers if you search subject (Art—Greece, Art--Greek, Art—Egyptian) title
(Greek art, Egyptian art) or keyword field, e.g. Egypt AND art,
(Greece OR Greek) AND art, etc.
Most books about art will be in
Oversize collection with and
O before their call number, e.g. Egypt
in Color (O 913.32
W878), which means that they can be found on the second floor of the library and the
two last rows of books.
NetLibrary
Another option that students have for their library research is
NetLibrary,
a collection of more than 6,000 eBooks (books in electronic format).
Students must create an account while on campus.
There are at least two eBooks in NetLibrary that may be helpful with your
research about Egyptian architectural characteristics: Encyclopedia of the
Archaeology of Ancient Egypt and Experiments in Egyptian Archaeology:
Stoneworking Technology in Ancient Egypt.
Encyclopedia of the Archaeology of
Ancient Egypt
by
Bard, Kathryn A. Shubert,
Steven Blake
Experiments in Egyptian Archaeology:
Stoneworking Technology in Ancient Egypt
by
Stocks, Denys A.
Electronic Databases
Another choice
for research would be COS Library's
Academic
Electronic Databases.
The one that is recommended is Gale's
Arts and Humanities Through the Eras
Students can
either perform their search from the eBooks' search box or choose the artistic
period from the dropdown menu first (shown below).

Second
useful database for this course/assignment is
CredoReference
You may choose
Art under subject dropdown menu on
the right of the search box to limit the number of results (and save some time).

There
will be some other suggestions to refine your search: entry type, media, person,
date, etc.
