Meet Judy House

"Being a reporter is as much a diagnosis as a job description" - Anna Quindlen

I am a former newspaper reporter, editor and freelance journalist who joined the faculty at College of the Sequoias in 1991. I believe in the power of the student press having served as editor in chief of my college daily. I grew up in Fresno where I graduated with a bachelor’s in journalism and a master’s in mass communication from California State University, Fresno.

My position here at COS is my second career having been a journalist for 12 years. My first job after college was a reporting position at the Riverside Press-Enterprise. I was the editor of The Clovis Independent, a McClatchy newspaper, and a reporter for The Fresno Business Journal. I was also a freelance writer for a number of agriculture and landscape magazines. I also taught journalism at Fresno State for two years. I love journalism because it is dynamic and important to a democracy. It is a wonderful career and I encourage students to give it a try.

I am a member of the Journalism Association of Community Colleges and College Media Advisers. The Campus Newspaper is also a member of the California Newspaper Publisher’s Association. On a personal note, I am interested in cinema, gardening and outdoor activities. I live on a farm in Hanford with my husband and two children.

Thank you to Gene Maddox's art class for the photo manipulation. Click on the above imag to view a gallery of all the work.
